Stamping With Watercolor Crayons

Here is the unmounted stamp on acrylic block. I have scribbled several different colors of crayons directly onto the stamp. This is one of Joan's mountain stamps.

The next picture shows the stamp after it has been lightly misted with water. It doesn't show up very well on the stamp but you can see water droplets on the acrylic block.

Here is the first stamped image. Mist the stamp again without adding more color and stamp again.

Here is the addition of the second stamping. You can usually get several stampings without adding more color, just mist with water and stamp until there is not enough color left to make an image.

Here, I'm using a water brush to blend and soften the colors.

Here, I've blended the colors and added blue to the darker areas and some white to the lighter areas. This is a close up showing only part of the picture.

In this view I've added quite a bit more blue and white. I usually work with at least two brushes....one to apply color and one to blend. I will continue on to the rest of the mountains blending and adding more color. If I'm using a lot of white I use it from a tube of white. I use a wet brush to pick up color directly from the crayons.

This is a close up view of the above. This is pretty messy. I'm usually more careful about covering the large blank areas with a plain piece of paper to avoid the splotches you see here.

I hope this is helpful to anyone who wants to try using this technique.
