My acrylic blocks have straight sides, sanded to remove any burs or saw marks, unlike the expensive ones in the stores that have concave sides that are highly polished.

I sell them in two thickness, 1/4" and 1/2". The 1/4" is just as sturdy, but some find the thicker blocks easier to hold. It's really just a matter of preference. Most stores sell either 1/2" or 3/4".
